The Thomaston Kiwanis Club and Upson-Lee High School recently announced Kariv Patel as the 2022 PAGE STAR Student. Patel selected ULHS teacher Bethany Norris as the 2022 STAR Teacher.

Doyle Allen, member of the Thomaston Kiwanis Club, which sponsor’s the STAR program locally, announced the honor at the Jan. 18 club meeting.

Patel earned the recognition for academic achievement and performance on the scholastic aptitude test.

Now in its 64th year, the Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition program is administered and promoted by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators Foundation. Since its inception, the STAR program has honored more than 28,500 students and the teachers they have selected as having the most influence on their academic achievement.

This is the second time that Norris has been selected as STAR Teacher since teaching at ULHS.

To obtain the STAR nomination, high school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the S.A.T. and be in the top percentage of students in their class, based on grade point average.

“We are very proud of Kavir and Mrs. Norris and the academic excellence demonstrated at Upson-Lee High,” said Allen.
