On Wednesday, March 8, Mayah Fry was announced the winner of Upson EMC’s Hubert Hancock Leadership Award and will participate in a week-long trip to D.C. for the Washington Youth Tour.
The announcement came during the graduation ceremony for the Thomaston-Upson Chamber of Commerce’s Youth Leadership Upson Class of 2023.
Formerly known as the Washington Youth Tour/Upson EMC Leadership Award, the award was renamed in 1997, in honor of longtime Upson EMC Director and President Hubert Hancock.
Upson EMC has promoted the WYT for 17 years and teamed with the chamber to award the young person who exemplifies leadership and to provide an opportunity for the student to join others around the country for the week-long experience at the nation’s Capital.
Finalists for the award included alternate Lizzie Stewart, Trent Coker, Ella Kate Hinson, Jules Passmore, and Amarah Wilson. Additional students in the 2023 YLU class include Ava Dunaway, Rilyn Garner, Kaidence Johnson, Anna Beth Lowe, Angel Monfort, and Madison Patterson.
YLU chaperones and sponsors include T-U Chamber President Madison Ruttinger and Vice President Nicole McKinley; Brooke Parrott, Upson EMC; Chief Mike Richardson, Thomaston Police Department; Katie Heinrich, URMC-OBGYN; and Brad Adams, Adams Insurance Services.
