Following an accident, high-speed vehicle chase, and foot chase Sunday, Jimtavious Cortez Thompson was arrested and charged with felony theft by taking and fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, according to Thomaston Police Department reports.
TPD Cpl. Erik Richards responded to an accident in the parking lot of Valero on Barnesville Highway, where he found a silver Lexus with “heavy front end damage” and two other damaged vehicles. As he approached, the Lexus, driven by Thompson, jumped the curb and fled down Avenue F, Richards stated.
After the pursuit reached speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour on Avenue F, Thompson turned into Farview apartment complex, where pursuit continued at more than 60 mph, according to the report. Thompson abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, but was arrested after a short chase.
The owner of the Lexus, which was taken from the complex, said she had not given Thompson permission to drive her vehicle.
In addition to the two felonies, Thompson was charged with misdemeanor obstructing or hindering law enforcement, hit and run/leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, and two counts of striking an unattended vehicle.
