Powers Find Andy Griffith Statue While Traveling

Stephen and Mary Beth Powers’ dog smiles for a picture in front of a statue of Andy Griffith and Opie Taylor.

While traveling to visit friends in West Virginia, Thomaston residents Stephen and Mary Beth Powers decided to stop along the way in Mount Airy, N.C. and learned that the “quaint little town” was the inspiration for the town of Mayberry on the Andy Griffith Show.

After exploring the town, the couple came across a statue of Andy Griffith and Opie Taylor in Mount Airy and decided to see if their dog would pose along with the statue, which she did.

“The Andy Griffith show holds a special place in my heart as I was raised watching it with my parents and grandparents. It brings back great memories of good times. I hope this photo brings as much happiness as it has brought myself and my husband,” commented Mary Beth.
