Opie Johnson

Mr. Opie Johnson, age 53, of Thomaston, died Thursday, March 2, 2023, at his residence.

Opie was born Aug. 15, 1969, in Thomaston, to Lamar Johnson and Greta Fallin Johnson. He started his career at Spalding EMS, then spent most of his EMS career in Upson County, as a paramedic/assistant shift supervisor. When Upson Regional sold to MidGA/Community, he stayed on. Then when AmeriPro was brought in as EMS provider, he stayed on, working the last year out of Lamar County stations.

Opie was a member of Christ Chapel Church in Zebulon and spent more than 30 years serving his community and others.

Survivors include his wife, Robyn Mewbourn Johnson of Thomaston; parents, Lamar and Greta Johnson of Thomaston; daughters, Summer (Dylan) Johnson of Thomaston and Marci (Gage) Thigpen of Thomaston; son, Landry Johnson of Thomaston; brother, Andy Johnson of Thomaston; sister, Angel (Brad) Wheeler of Thomaston; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 5, from Christ Chapel Church. Burial followed at Valley Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Christ Chapel/Be The Light, 68 Old Zebulon Road, Zebulon, GA 30295.
