Mr. Alton Dawson, 87, of South Green Street, passed Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021 at Providence Health and Rehab.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 9, in the George E. Trice, Jr. Memorial Chapel. Pastor Ralph Searcy officiated, assisted by Pastor Jimmy Lyons and Evangelist Sandra T. Trice. Interment was in Fellowship Cemetery.
Mr. Dawson was born in Talbot County and was educated in the public schools of Talbot County. During his early manhood, he had a love for cars and was taught how to repair them. He operated his own local business in Thomaston in his early years.
In 1974 he moved to Los Angeles, Calif. He resided in California for more than 50 years. He became an entrepreneur after starting his own auto repair business. In 2018 he moved back to Georgia. He attended New Lincoln Park A.M.E. Church and was very faithful until the pandemic.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Doris (Ronnie) Holloway of Thomaston; two sons, Mr. Leroy (Denise) Dawson of Los Angeles, Calif. and Mr. John Alton (Ann) Dawson of Thomaston; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lula Mae Riley of Butler; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Trice Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
